COURSE DESCRIPTION

.A Level 6 Diploma in Perioperative Theatre Technology is a 2 year course examined by TVET  CDACC that  equips individuals with the skills and knowledge to provide technical and supportive services within the operating room setting. This includes assisting surgical teams, maintaining equipment, ensuring patient and team safety, and participating in clinical services. The program focuses on infection control, technical support, instrument care, and administrative duties related to the operating room. 

 
Key aspects of Perioperative Theatre Technology at Level 6: 

 
  • Infection control:
Maintaining a sterile environment, adhering to infection control protocols, and ensuring proper sterilization of instruments are crucial aspects. 

 
  • Assisting surgical teams:
    This involves tasks like preparing the operating room, assisting with patient positioning, and providing instruments and equipment during procedures. 
  • Technical support:
    This includes pre-testing and maintaining operating room equipment, troubleshooting technical issues, and ensuring the smooth functioning of all devices. 

     
  • Patient and team safety:
    Perioperative Theatre Technologists play a vital role in ensuring the safety of both patients and the surgical team during procedures. 

     
  • Administrative duties:
    This may involve managing theatre resources, supervising activities, and participating in the overall administration of the operating theatre department.

Graduates with a Level 6 Diploma in Perioperative Theatre Technology can find employment in various healthcare settings, including: 

 
Private hospitals, Public hospitals, Mission-based hospitals, CSSD (Central Sterile Services Department) as sterilizing technicians, and Sales and marketing of operating theatre equipment.
